Spreading the gospel via digital multimedia technology

    Several years ago, I watched a DVD movie with my daughter. In the behind the scene section, the producer talked about how he spent time and money to create beautiful pictures, staged the scenes and used action oriented media to deliver an old message. I felt very ashamed. What did I do to make use of these latest technologies to convey the message of God’s love and salvation. I envision that multimedia technologies (e.g. Internet, DVD and Satellite TV) will play an important role in spreading the gospel. Some of our young people find that going to church is boring. I sometimes feel the same way, too. Instead of just putting the blame on them, should we also make some improvements in our method of delivery?

    Four years ago, I felt the calling from God to use digital multimedia technologies to spread the gospel. What can I do!! My resources are very limited. I spent much of my time doing research so as to acquire the technique of DVD and video productions. Getting some other Christians involved, I summarized the message of salvation and Jesus’ second coming in a 40-mintue video. Different from the traditional way of elaborating on a point or two of salvation for hours, this DVD video touches different topic at a fast pace with visual effects and lyrics displayed. Instead of just talking, I incorporated songs, music, digital pictures and digital videos to make it more interesting. There is no way for this DVD to compete with those big Hollywood productions. Most of us are amateurs; but I pray that this Karaoke/DVD in Cantonese, Mandarin and English can spread the gospel via digital multimedia technologies. In addition, I hope this will inspire other Christians to equip themselves for the coming of the digital multimedia age. The road is long, and the workers are few. This small step that I made is like a drop of water in the desert. However, the rewards are great, and the work for Jesus will never be in vain.
